Undo and release the clutch cable from the transmission and stow it to one side. Unclip the reverse light switch and remove the bracket. Install the support beam and undo the upper bell housing bolts and the starter motor upper bolt. Remove the gearbox supporting bracket (pictured below). Raise the vehicle and remove the N/S/F wheel.

My son has a 2003 C2 VTR (semi-automatic gearbox). It has developed an odd problem where it jams in 5th gear and hence cannot be driven. To recover it is necessary to disconnect the battery, short out the positive connector (apparantly to reset the management system) and then reconnect. The gearbox can then be heard trying to sort out a gear.

We would suggest avoiding the C1 with the ETG gearbox, as it delivers clunky gearchanges and a less comfortable driving experience, as well as being slightly more thirsty than the manual version. Tags: manual gearbox gearboxes automatic
